Daydreams and Wishes

I never do the "Writer's Block" things that appear on the main LJ page . . . but I felt I needed to do this one:

These days, there's a holiday for everything from punctuation to pie. If you could create your own holiday, what would it be and how would you celebrate?

ladymoony and I *have* done this. Because we are geeky. (And there needed to be a Who-liday.)



And now I need to finish my tea (or transfer to a travel mug) and head to class.

Surprisingly, my O.Chem final this morning wasn't as evil as I thought 'twould be--'twas difficult, yes, but I think I did pretty well (though I might have confused some of the mechanisms) and I may have even gotten part of the bonus question right! :D I went to lunch with Dana, Erin, and Kelly afterwards . . . and then proceeded to do absolutely nothing. Seriously. Since lunch, I've read maybe 3 chapters of The Scarlet Letter, wandered around on LJ (ooh, I should make some icons--I *still* haven't finished my songset yet), read a bunch of fanfiction, and made yet another paper snowflake to add to my wall (since Selinsgrove has no snow yet *is sad*)--which makes a total of 3. And it's not that I'm slacking off, either--I don't have anything to do. I can't go home until Thursday because of my US History final in the morning, but I don't have anything at all on Wednesday and 'tis impossible to study for my History final because 'tis all analysis . . . As promised, here is weekend-ness:

We've been having very odd weather lately here in PA--Sunday was in the high 60s, yesterday was in the 30s and low 40s, dropping down to the 20s at night (and my Weather Channel toolbar said we were supposed to get flurries last night, too! Yay for snow.) It was about 25* when I left for class this morning, and I think it's supposed to get up to the mid 40s in the afternoon . . . usually it stays in the low 40s and 50s in autumn, but I guess the weather's just confused . . . hehe

US History was *quite* amusing today--we had to read the last few articles in our "textbook" critiquing (that doesn't look right . . .) women's magazines in the 1940s-1960s (the book is a collection of articles from these magazines), so we were discussing these articles today. While we were talking about the four main critique points, we stumbled unwittingly into pretty much a full-out debate about the merit of women's magazines--most of the people who were offering opinions expressed the thoughts that the majority of people who read these magazines do so for entertainment purposes and do not slavishly follow their advice. However, there were one or two who were saying these magazines are simply the brainchild of advertising companies and pretty much implied that anyone who read them was a brainless follower of mass media . . . needless to say, I was chuckling throughout much of the class . . .

I think I shall make myself a cup of English Breakfast--yay for tea :)

According to Merriam-Webster, "Angst(n) : a feeling of anxiety, apprehension, or insecurity" Yup, that seems to apply . . .

So, my day definitely didn't start off on the right foot today (as if days had feet in the first place . . .) I totally overslept--not only did I miss my alarm, but I missed my roomie's alarm too . . . I woke up when I heard her closing the door to leave for class (we're in the same class--evil O. Chem.)--it sounded like she was trying to be all quiet so she wouldn't wake me up, but then she told me in class that she was making all kinds of noise so I would wake up (and apparently I yell at her when she tries to wake me up . . . definately didn't know that and apologised about five times) . . . so I had about 20 minutes to get ready for class, in which I managed to get dressed, print off the lecture notes, and make tea. However, I upset my travel mug and spilled almost all of my tea on the floor about 5 mintutes before class started . . . so I had to use all my tissues to try to sop it up (I basically just put them in the gigantic tea puddle) which wasn't good because I got a cold when I went home for break this past weekend . . . and on top of that, I didn't understand today's O.Chem. lecture AT ALL . . . we got our exams back from last Friday and I definitely did a lot worse than the first exam (I knew I was going to have a bunch of points taken off because I messed up two of the 10pt questions entirely, but I didn't think 'twould be *that* bad . . .) . . . then I stayed behind a few minutes to clean up my tea puddle, which thankfully Erin helped me with (*huggles Erin*) . . . now to work on Genetics for my exam on Friday so I don't fail that test too . . . :\

hmm . . . I think I should update . . . hehe. *Points at icon* Look, it's one of my new ones! :D . . . Let's see, where did I leave off? Ah, yes, Friday (the 13th--dun dun dun): After the "flooding" of the lab on Thursday, nothing really exciting (or horrible) happened on Friday. 'Twas actually rather slow at the lab, if I recall correctly . . . my mom and I were going to go to the movie theatre to see The Princess Diaries, but then we remembered that the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics were on and watched them with my dad. My dad and I *loved* the introduction, where James Earl Jones' distinctive voice was narrating about Ancient Greece with the theme from Jurassic Park in the background---go John Williams!! [sidenote--I wonder what he would have thought if at the time he wrote his Olympic themes for the '72 and '96 Games he would have known that they would become the "unofficial" themes for all following Games? . . . . ok, that was a rather confusing sentence, and I think I confused myself too] Of course, since 'twas Friday night and I didn't have to get up early on Sat, I stayed up rather late and read fanfiction . . . *looks sheapish* (is that even spelled right? *ponders*)

Saturday was fun, as I had my birthday party with my Wellsboro friends. Sarah, Karen, and G-Girl came for pizza and movies--Low-C came for about 15 minutes during her lunch break right after everyone else came and we talked for a little bit on my porch. She didn't have my present wrapped yet, but she gave me a pretty circlet-thingy from the Laurel Festival as a sort of birthday hat/crown :). I let Sarah, Karen, and G-Girl pick out one of my CDs to listen to while we ate (more like demolished . . . we also had help from Alexander) our pizza--'twas a unanimous vote for Norah Jones because that was the only CD they recognised (as the rest of my CD collection is various soundtracks, John Williams scores, Enya, Sarah Brightman, and Josh *waves flags for film scores and crossover*) We talked about fun times in elementary and middle school while listening to my CD of randomness--I hadn't realised how much I missed talking with them . . . At around 4 or so (they'd come over at 1ish) we hopped into Sarah's truck and headed to Video King to rent something. We didn't find anything we really wanted to watch, but G-Girl had brought her copy of The Reduced Shakespeare Company's "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare", which was hilarious! 'Tis a 90-minute video featuring three actors presenting Shakespeare's entire works in front of a live audience . . . they don't actually act all of the plays though--they do all the histories as one (Amer.) football game and merge the comedies into a "mega-play" type thing . . . I'd recommend it ('twould be great for a SU movie night if we can find a copy--I bet the library might have one) . . .

Oh, and if anyone was wondering, I only used an lj-cut because this post was really long without it and I didn't want to take up so much space on your Friends pages . . .
