Jan. 23rd, 2004 12:11 amAfter reading that Samuel Taylor Coleridge and his friend Robert Southey "hatched a scheme to emigrate to the shores of the Susquehanna River [. . .] to live in an ideal society" (from Paul H. Fry's critical essay on "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner"):
Chris: yes, i just read that
Me: hmm . . . that's a good idea for a road trip
Me: drive around the Susquehanna and try to set up an ideal society
Me: do you think we'd get extra credit?
Chris: we could set it up on the isle of Q
Me: what's that?
Chris: it's down on the other side of selinsgrove at the river
Me: how big is it?
Chris: i dunno
Chris: i was only there once
Chris: big enough for an idea society
Me: big enough for a small ideal society?
Me: good
Me: who do we want in our society/colony?
Chris: nobody, people would ruin it
Me: how do we have a society/colony without people?
Chris: well, i don't see any other way of keeping it ideal
Erin and Richie (and whomever else wants to come along) . . . are you up for a road trip?
